I'm confused as to what the actual critique is here. Like, yes, the game's design is very rudimentary and childish...but that's kind of the point; and the fun of it. Everyone knows it's incredibly simple, it's satisfying and intoxicating in its simplicity. Its a very safe game, and that's the niche it fills. Your critiques are valid, but being a AAA contender for the best game ever made isn't what it's aiming for; and I think it's ability to bridge childhood and adulthood successfully and consistently is what proves it's promise. Not every game should be designed to be the "best" game, or to compete with design dense or lengthy games. Games need to be fun, first and foremost, and at least in my opinion it doesn't matter how a game is designed as long as it does end up being fun.

the medication thing seems like the one gimmick the writer came up with for the human protagonist early in the process and then he was a bit too proud of it to remove it completely even after some sort of major payoff got removed (maybe a scene where the evil robot hides her meds or something)

I think the best jokes are the ones that you can relate to as accurate. If a comedian says that waiting at a bus stop is like the opening scene to an independent short film, I laugh cause I used to ride the bus and I've met some pretty strange people at various bus stops, feeling like I'm in a set up to some strange film.

I watch a lot of dnd UA-cam/twitch series, it genuinely shocks me that an almost fully improvised show with little to no visuals can have better characterisation, better serious moments, better plot progression, better relationships and better comedy than a Netflix approved comedy with professional writers, actors, animators and full funding.

The premise of the zoo plot line was done better in The Amazing World of Gumball
